We are Baffin Base Operators

Established in 2021, Baffin Base Operators (BBO) is a joint venture partnership formed between Canadian Base Operators (CBO) and North Baffin Co-operatives. BBO is listed on the Inuit Firm Registry and will pursue facility management and operations opportunities in Baffin Region, which lies in the Nunavut Settlement Area.

For over 25 years, CBO has provided customized facilities management and logistical support services to clients in the Canadian defence, aviation and energy sectors. BBO’s Inuit benefits objectives have an opportunity to impact communities by creating opportunities through training, skills development and mentorship for Inuit beneficiaries at all levels of employment across their projects, as well as of local priority sub-contracting opportunities of Inuit firms / Inuit-owned companies. This partnership increases participation in Inuit business opportunities to supply goods and services within the Nunavut Settlement Area. The collaboration between CBO and North Baffin Co-operatives will harness the strengths and abilities of each organization to generate project innovation and solve complex scope challenges.

“The co-ops of Sanirajak, Igloolik and Pond Inlet are very excited to be able to partner with Canadian Base Operators,” said Anne Curley, President of Hall Beach Co-op, Chairperson of the Board, Co-op Coalition. “To have additional Inuit participation through employment opportunities, skills training and apprentice opportunities in the communities is key in our minds to truly making this northern defence project more participative for Northerners. The additional procurement of goods and services through the co-ops will increase patronage dividends distributed annually to our members.”

North Baffin Co-operatives consists of Inuit-owned multi-purpose businesses that provide a wide range of services to their members and their communities. Partnering and working with the coalition provides direct widespread benefits to local communities. The members of the co-op not only directly use and support local Inuit businesses in the Baffin Region, but they also work together to improve the social and economic well-being of their communities by sponsoring events, running local programs and creating local employment opportunities.

“This collaborative partnership between CBO and other Indigenous and northern-owned enterprises across the Arctic includes a coalition of the Baffin Island co-operatives of Pond Inlet, Igloolik and Sanirajak,” explained Fred Hunt, Executive Secretary to the Board, North Baffin Co-operative Coalition. “As locally owned, member-driven businesses, the co-ops will provide significant direct benefits to the communities and their approximately 3,000 co-op members through their annual patronage dividends. Not only will the co-op members receive direct financial benefits but CBO’s Inuit benefit objectives will continue to bring training, skills development, and business opportunities and growth within the communities.”

With North Baffin Co-operatives’ longstanding history in the Baffin Region and CBO’s expertise in facility management, BBO will deliver tailored facility management and operations solutions to meet the unique requirements of its clientele in the North.
